Sea Monster S.O.S

A middle grade STEM mystery

A ghost hunter, animal whisper and middle grade MacGyver must team up to stop a sinister force bent on banishing mythical creatures from the town of Monarch Bay.

The middle grade mystery can be described as Scooby Doo meets Bill Nye the Science Guy with a pinch of Yellowstone mixed in.

Welcome to Monarch Bay, where monsters swim in the seas and yetis pick berries for baking. Monarch Bay is a place where humans and mythical creatures live together peacefully—until now. When a sinister new secret society starts eliminating the mythical creatures, only three unlikely heroes can stop them.

Luna Moon is a ghost hunter who has never caught a ghost. Cowgirl Susie Q is an animal whisperer who prefers ponies to people. Mateo Vargas is a middle grade MacGyver who has an answer for everything, even if it’s the wrong answer. Can these three unlikely friends work together to stop the secret society before the mythical creatures disappear forever?

Sea Monster S.O.S. is an intriguing mystery filled with ghosts, yetis, and of course, sea monsters. Horse lovers will laugh as Susie Q deals with her overly dramatic herd. They will cheer for Luna as she grapples with ghosts and draw inspiration from Mateo as he tinkers. The story features a strong STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) component as the three heroes use these concepts to solve many of their problems.

Written by a K-8 STEM teacher, Sea Monster S.O.S. leads the reader on a thought journey as they explore how to consume news, what is fake news, and how believing inaccurate news sources can lead to trouble. Sea Monster S.O.S. is best-suited for readers, grades 5-7 and provides great content for a 6th or 7th grade English Language Arts module.
